    1. Fun sci fi, the sort of space opera that Matsumoto is known for Originally published in the late 1970s, but just now I think published in English Will I continue on with the series I m not sure.

    2. A haunting tale of the mysterious Emeraldas, a lonely woman wandering the space ways for reasons only she knows Despite shopping at the same clothing store as Space Pirate Captain Harlock, Emeraldas and her vessel the Queen Emeraldas have a very different vibe and go through a different sort of adventure One that I m looking forward to continuing in the next volume of Leiji Matsumoto s classic manga.

    3. I m always excited when I find Matsumoto material that I haven t read The whole volume is a little light on the plot, considering it s over 400 pages, but it s an enjoyable read.

    4. I am so glad to finally read this I m a big fan of Leiji Matsumoto, so I was pretty disappointed with a now defunct anime company called ADV only releasing half of the OVA animated series that was loosely based on this original 1978 manga That was like a decade ago, and there wasn t really a good way to get the rest of the story legally Flash forward to 2016 and not only can you buy things like a legit copy of Captain Harlock on DVD, but one can also buy this original manga in a beautiful hardco [...]

    5. If you re of a certain age, chances are Leiji Matsumoto was one of your first introductions to anime, most likely either through Star Blazers, the Americanized version of Space Battleship Yamato, or the first Galaxy Express movie Alternately, you may have encountered him through the Daft Punk film Interstella 5555 or at least the music videos culled from it No matter how you came at him, though, there s no doubt that he s one of the big names in science fiction anime.Queen Emeraldas is set in th [...]

    6. Leiji Matsumoto is a very well known manga and anime artist whose space operas are some of best loved of the genre This volume of Queen Emeraldas collects together several issues of the original manga which ran from 1978 9 it is unclear how many issues there are because there is no table of contents nor title pages as I am used to seeing in manga collections translated into English This volume also includes two short stories featuring Emeraldas The hardcover makes this an excellent copy for coll [...]

    7. I ve been waiting for English translations of Matsumoto s comics since about 2004 when I got all five available volumes of Galaxy Express 999.The wait has been worth it.Matsumoto s art is unique and scratchy when it comes to figures, but streamlined and wonderful when it comes to vehicles and cities and I think a lot of his philosophy comes through in condensed comics form than in its animated form Men are Men here, brash and determined to live a free life, but also containing a fire and compa [...]

    8. This is stunning and beautiful The art is fantastic There is a lot of negative space, a lot of black Some characters are realistic while others are cartoonish In fact, the male lead reminded me of Weirdly Gruesome from The Flinstones LOL The story is gorgeous with an ethereal sense to it Emeraldas is a very mysterious woman and we only learn a bit about her or the other characters And yet, it is violent, not graphically but this is a world where survival of the fittest rules, to the point survi [...]

    9. A space opera about dreams frustrated acknowledged, extinguished fired and how they affect both dreamer witness Emeraldas appears as a sort of ethereal Man With No Name figure throughout, inspiring awe or fear in those that encounter her Beautiful art by the legendary Matsumoto An interesting story with thought provoking moments, if a bit emotionally cool for my tastes.

    10. Gorgeous artwork The stories are some what simple, but very theme heavy The stories that pertain to Emeraldas herself as apposed to Hiroshi Umino his name probably a play one words for sea of stars are way interesting.

    11. So it took me a while to get into this, with the older art style but once I got going, it was really poignant and beautiful.
